Sustaining People, Sustaining Land
Since 1997 the Northern Forest Center has fostered dialogue
and collaboration among hundreds of people and more than 150
organizations across the Northern Forest about how to secure
a prosperous and sustainable future for the region.
Sustaining People, Sustaining Land: FY ’07 Northern
Forest Federal Appropriations Strategy represents
one outcome of this work. Together with a network of organizations
from across the region, the Center created this document
as a vehicle to bring greater support to community, economic
and conservation initiatives in the Northern Forest by advocating
collectively for public funding. The federal funding requests
outlined within it are not for any specific organization.
They are for funding federal programs that serve communities
across the region.
Sustaining People, Sustaining Land presents:
- A request for more than $311 million for existing federal
programs that serve the communities, economies and lands of
the Northern Forest region
- A coalition of endorsing organizations that is prepared to
advocate on behalf of the region; and
- A call to Congress and the President to support the community,
economic and conservation needs of the Northern Forest.
