The Campaign for People & Place in the Northern Forest
We are raising $6 million to fund The Campaign for People & Place
in the Northern Forest. With sustained land conservation
well underway in the Northern Forest, it is time to turn our
attention to the people and communities that are struggling
to remain viable. We seek to create the same possibilities
for the people of the region that have been created so successfully
for its landscape over the last 15 years. The Campaign
for People & Place is enabling the Northern Forest
Center to mobilize this new movement.
Since 1997, the Northern Forest Center has been learning the
needs of the people and communities of the Northern Forest.
We have talked with hundreds of people, studied the region’s
assets and weaknesses and tested ideas and commitment for creating
a better and stronger social and economic future built on a
legacy of conservation. We have devised strategies for on-the-ground
change to improve the well-being of people, communities and
land for the Northern Forest of tomorrow.
Our plan is threefold:
- To work locally to engage people and communities to direct
change;
- To work regionally to launch the first-ever economic sustainability
strategy for the Northern Forest; and
- To work nationally to secure essential public and private
investment in the region
The Campaign for People & Place in the
Northern Forest ensures that we have the capacity
to follow through on these strategies and achieve the
vision so many people share for a stronger, more prosperous
region.
