Ways of the Woods

Exhibition supports community education programs

Ways of the Woods: People and the Land in the Northern Forest is The Center’s mobile forest heritage museum. The exhibition combines multi-media displays with educational kiosks, artifacts and children’s activities to help people explore the ever-changing relationships between people and land across the Northern Forest.

During a four year tour of fairs and festivals across the Northern Forest almost 6,000 school children and more than 130,000 people in 85 communities toured the exhibition. That’s the equivalent of 1 out of every 15 Northern Forest residents!

In 2010, the Center began partnering with colleges, museums and other organizations to use Ways of the Woods as an anchor for extended programming and educational activities. Host organizations work with the Center to “install” the exhibit for periods ranging from a few weeks to several months, and to manage public interaction with the exhibit based on their own organizational interests and capacity.

After an extended installation at White Mountains Community College in Berlin, NH, this past winter and spring, Ways of the Woods will be at Errol Consolidated School in Errol, NH, through September.
